Monday night we met two dancers from Canada. I just fell in love with them. They were ton's of fun. There also some really great blues dancers that came out. It was a great mix! We all chatted and decided that we were all going to to go to Century Ballroom Tuesday and then to Waids for some blues dancing. We swung by and picked up Jesse another new friend we met Monday night and met Katie and Jay at Century. The dance floor had all of 3 couples so we checked out the new restaurant/lounge at Century called the Tin Room. It had fantastic atmosphere. After our cocktail we returned to the dance. The situation hadn't changed except our Canadian friends Jay and Trish had arrived. We danced a few songs and then went to Waids. Katie and I decided that Waids is like a modern day Seattleite Moulin Rouge. We are pretty sure if you look hard enough you would find an opium den some where in the building. It kinda feels like flappers with cigarette extenders should be walking around flirting with the gentlemen that are doing illegal things like drinking during prohibition. When you first walk in you get slapped across the face with the smell of sweat. It's so hot and humid you immediately strip down to the bare minimum clothing. Directly in front of you is a doorway with a curtain. Behind the curtain is a staircase that leads to a balcony that over looks the dance floor. Couches line the walls and there are shoe covering the floor. coats and bags are tossed on the couches and very few people are up there because the air is even hotter upstairs. at the top of the stairs to your left is a small room. This my friends is the "Pillow Room" We have been warned to not go in the pillow room for all of the reasons that you are imagining right now. The dance floor is always packed full of blues dancers and the mix of blues being played is phenomenal! I love blues dancing. Waids is my new favorite place to dance. I think blues dancing will make me a better all around dancer. It forces me to really feel the dance and follow my partner. That and it's so much fun. We had such a great time dancing with our new friends.
