I had talked to Andrea some time ago about throwing a Benefit for my friend and old business partner Ashleigh. Ash was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. When she turned 25 she was dropped from her insurance. She was on her mom's insurance, and as long as she was a student and was under 25 years old she could receive insurance. When she was dropped from her mom's insurance she was able to get Cobra. But Cobra is very expensive and it doesn't really cover much. It also runs out after I think 2 years. Ash will be needing a lot of help with this hefty financial burden. If you are interested in donating you can do so on her website. http://www.ashleighlowery.com/ You can also find out about up coming fundraisers and what is going on as far as chemo and her health. So what do you do when thing's like this happen...? You throw a party and raise money! We settled on December 13Th. It would be a Nightmare before Christmas Masquerade Ball. We left our fantastic Halloween decorations up and added Santa hat's to our bat's and spiders. put up Christmas tree's and light's and called it a haunted Christmas. Appropriate for the Oxford since it's haunted and all. Don't believe in ghost? google the Oxford Saloon in Snohomish. You will find all sort's of stuff about this fantastic old bar. Or go to the Oxford website at http://www.theoxfordsaloon.com/ . The night was great. We served dinner down stairs. Joshua taught a beginner East Coast Swing class and Swing time played till 10:00. Businesses from 1st street donated gift certificates to raffle off. It was so cool to see people be so generous! Jason & Chad two Pilots that come in regularly, donated Airplane rides that we auctioned off. Joshua donated a 1 hour private dance lesson, and Peter another regular of the Oxfords donated a hand crafted native American flute. It went for $230.00 It was so sweet watching Ashleigh's face while this was going on. It was extremely moving. The night was a great success! We raised over $3,000 to go towards her medical bills. All this was possible because of a whole bunch of wonderful people on first street that gave their resources and heart's. I love 1st street.
